56th National School Games U-19 Girls Football
J&K holds Delhi draw; Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh in QFs

JAMMU, Sept 28: Unlike the boys, hosts J&K girls provided some cheerful moments to the home crowd today when the energetic side held Delhi to a 3-3 draw in the first outing in the league round of the ongoing 56th National School Games under-19 Girls Football at MA Stadium, here.
Though Jammu girls took the first lead but could not maintain the tempo and conceded three goals to go down 2-3. However, the forward line supported by the goal-keeper, who made a couple of great saves, helped J&K come out with a draw.
Earlier, J&K took the early lead when Mehak Pandita scored in the 5th minute. The lead was equalised in the 15th minute by Sareena Dhillon. Three minutes later, J&K again went a head with Mehak scoring her second goal in the 18th, but only to find the score leveled at 2-2 with Sareena netting the ball for her second goal in the 24th minute.
Before the end of the first half, Delhi took the lead with Chandan Devi scoring third goal in the 30th minute. It was followed by a dilly dallying battle as both sides made attack and counter attacks. It was only in the 51st minute that Ayimen scored third goal for J&K to level the score on board 3-3.
In the meantime, two teams have qualified for the knock-out stages of quarterfinals. While Maharashtra reached the quarters from pool-D winning both the games, Chhattisgarh has become second side to confirm berth with two wins from pool-C.
In the first match of the day between J&K and Delhi at MA Stadium, here Director Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), G M Dar was special invitee. He was accompanied by a host of senior officers of the Department.
J&K 19-member Team: Neetika, Pooja Ravi, Iftah, Seerat Shafi, Sheeba, Mehak Pandita, Upasana, Noma Nazir, Steffi, Ayimen, Urvaishi, Afreen Khan, Mehak Mushtaq, Shalini, Mehvish, Babra, Nadiya, Devyani and Rashika Koul.
The Results: (League) Jharkhand bt Haryana 2-0; Chattisgarh bt Uttrakhand 1-0; Madhya Pradesh bt IPSC 5-0; Maharashtra bt IPSC 10-0; Punjab bt Delhi 2-0; Goa bt Tamil Nadu 2-1; Bihar bt Chandigarh 6-1.
