Nazki, not Hamal likely to head BGSBU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 30: Nazki influence is likely to keep Professor Hamal away from the vice chancellor's office in the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri although he figures at serial number 1 in the list submitted by the Chief Minister's search committee headed by Muhammad Shafi Pandit. The file was sent to Chief Minister's secretariat Monday evening and a decision is expected shortly, highly placed sources said. Ayaz Rasool Nazki, the Registrar of the BGSBU is a close relative of Chief Minister's media advisor and former director of the Srinagar Doordarshan Kendra, Farooq Nazki. Farooq also happens to be a close friend of former Chief Minister and National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah. Ayaz, sources in BGSBU said, is not eligible for the post of vice chancellor as per the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The candidate must have ten year experience as professor. Professor Irshad Hamal on the other hand is the only local (Jammuite) in the fray and was likely to take over from the outgoing vice chancellor Masud Choudary in the first week of October. Hamal heads the Bhaderwah campus of the Jammu University and has vast experience both in academics and administration. The other candidates Peer Mushtaq presently chairman of SS Board and Professor. NA Ganai, former chairman Board of School Education is the other candidates on the panel. It has been reliably learnt that Peer Mushtaq almost made it the Vice Chancellor's chamber but Farooq Nazki's influence over Sheiklh family marred his chances as well. The search committee constituted to recommend a panel has shortlisted four candidates. The shortlisted candidates include Professor Irshad Hamal, Professor Mustaq Peer and Professor Nisar Ganai. The panel has a fourth academician from out side the state. However, his name could not be ascertained. The appointment of vice chancellor for BGSBU has won the Chief Minister widespread ridicule. The appointment has been deferred for the past one year for unknown reasons. The Jammuites will take Nazki's appointment with a pinch of salt. They launched a media campaign for a local vice chancellor for the Central University. |
