Gandhi Jayanti celebrated across Jammu region

JAMMU, Oct 2:
Rich Tributes were paid to father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri across Jammu region on their respective birth anniversaries.
A function was organised by 125-Year Congress Foundation Celebration Committee to mark the occasion at Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu in co-ordination with District Congress Committee Jammu (Urban).
Addressing the party men, Pt Mangat Ram Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister & Sr Vice President PCC congratulated the Congressmen on this occasion and asked them to follow the path shown by our great leaders.
Speaking on the occasion Dharam Pal Sharma, Sr Vice President PCC said that Gandhi is the only personality in the World whose birthday is celebrated as Day of non-violence throughout the world.
R S Chib, Minister for Medical & Technical Education and YSS while paying tributes highlighted the achievements of both the leaders and stressed the need of following their teachings.
Madan Lal Sharma (MP) said the best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi would be to fulfill his dream of Panchayati Raj.
Gurmukh Singh, former Minister, Vice President PCC and Chairman 125th Congress Foundation Day Celebration Committee, while paying tributes, said that teachings of Mahatma Gandhi are more relevant today when vested interests are out to divide the people on communal and sectarian lines, the unity and communal harmony in the country. It is very essential, he said, to development of India and to make it World power economically and morally.
Hari Singh, Yash Paul Khajuria Vice Presidents PCC and Mula Ram, former Minister urged the Congressmen to be united in order to fulfill the dreams of Gandhi.
Arvinder Singh Micky, Deputy Chairman Legislative Council explained in detail the role played by Gandhi during freedom struggle.
Sawran Lata-VC SC Board; Kuldip Raj Verma, VC OBC Board; Indu Pawar (MLA) & President Mahila Congress; General Secretaries PCC Kanta Bhan, Amolak Singh; Shiv Dev Singh, Ex-MLA, Parkash Sharma-Ex-MLA, while paying tributes stressed the need of maintaining unity and adhere the principles of secularism and non-violence.
Om Chopra, ex-MLA & President District Congress Committee Jammu (Urban) presided over the meeting and thanked the Congressmen for their mass participation in the function.
As a part of Gandhi Jayanti, the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd organised a programme wherein Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla was the chief guest.
On the occasion, an Amul Vidya Award function was held in the premises of J&K Milk Producers Cooperative Ltd at Satwari Milk Plant where meritorious students of various schools of city of temples were honoured by Amul Vidya Awards by presenting them trophy, autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi and certificate for excellence.
Addressing the gathering, Bhalla paid rich tributes to father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and said that Gandhi became one of the most respected spiritual and political leaders of the 1900's. Gandhi helped free the Indian people from British rule through non-violent resistance and is honored by Indians as the father of the Indian Nation. He said that the Indian people called Gandhiji as 'Mahatma', meaning Great Soul. At the time the British controlled South Africa.
When he attempted to claim his rights as a British subject he was abused, and soon saw that all Indians suffered similar treatment.
Gandhi stayed in South Africa for 21 years working to secure rights for Indian people. He developed a method of action based upon the principles of courage, nonviolence and truth called Satyagraha. He believed that the way people behave is more important than what they achieve. Satyagraha promoted nonviolence and civil disobedience as the most appropriate methods for obtaining political and social goals. In 1915, Gandhi returned to India. Within 15 years he became the leader of the Indian nationalist movement.
Paying rich tributes to the Father of Nation and Lal Bahadur Shastri at a function organised by Socialistic Democratic Party at Satwari in connection with Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri's Jayanti, SDP supremo Dr Darakhshan Andrabi said that country's present political order was a vast deviation from Gandhian Philosophy and his political ideology. Dr Darakhshan Andrabi presided over a Youth seminar today at Satwari in which about five hundred youth from different parts of the division participated. The youth presented their views on "Gandhiji's political ideology and India's contemporary political order". Among other SDP leaders and senior citizens Prof Ram Sevak Mishra and Ambaben, the veteran Gandhians were also present who presented certificates and mementoes to the participating youth. Prof Ram Sevak Mishra in his address expressed pleasure that youth of modern India were seriously involved in reviving the spirit of the ideology of Bapuji in the country. Sister Ambaben from Gujrat appealed to the youth of the troubled J&K state to work for peace in the state so that Gandhiji's views about Kashmir are proved right.
Making a reference to the law and order situation of Kashmir Valley Dr Darakhshan Andrabi said that Central Government's recent Kashmir centric initiatives are aimed at winning over those few who were directly part to the four month long agitation but once again it has nothing for that majority population which suffered due to agitation.
She said that we in pratical need to impliment Gandhian approaches than go on complicating the issues with our myopic political prescriptions.
State Health Wing of National Students Union of India (NSUI) today celebrated birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
State health wing which is a statewide association of medical students paid homage top the father of the nation. The medical students led by
Mubashar Mashqoor Mir President State Health Wing first congregated at Bakshi Nagar where leaflets containing some important contributions of Bapu Gandhi towards the nation were distributed. After this they moved to the Mahatma Gandhi Chowk at Satwari where they offered flowers over the statue of Mahatma Gandhi along with other office bearers of NSUI (J&K) and prayed for peace of the departed soul.
Speaking on the occasion Mubashar Mir president State health wing threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his contributions towards nation building. He further stressed that there is immense need and utility of Gandhian principles to be followed by the people of India in the present era. Mir further said that many of our problems like poverty and terrorism can be solved if we practice and follow the gandhian way of living.
He urged to all Indians to maintain peace and communal integrity as was taught by Mahatma Gandhi. Other prominent office bearers of State
Health Wing who were present on the occasion were Harpreet Singh General Secy & Naqeeb Hassan, Secy State Health Wing NSUI.
Rotary Club Jammu also organized a day-long a free medical check-up and consultation camp at Rotary Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar here on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The ‘super specialty mega health camp’ was organized in collaboration with EMC Group of Hospitals, Amritsar.
Minister for Medical Education R S Chib was the chief guest on the occasion.
The specialist doctors who conducted the camp included Dr Jagdeep Singh MD, DM (Gastroentrology), DMC Ludhiana; Dr S S Lekhi, MD, DM (Cardiology), PGI Chandigarh; Dr Ved Prakash MS (Ortho) (Bone & Joint specialist), H. Kumar, (Gen Surgery) and Dr VP Mehra ( MD Cardio & Diabetic).
Besides giving free consultations, the doctors also conducted free of cost blood sugar, ECG and HIV tests and provided hepatitis vaccinations on the occasion.
Later Dr Dushayant Choudhary president of the Rotary Club Jammu Tawi and Pradeep Jain secretary of the club felicitated the chief guest by presenting a memento to him.
J & K Human Rights Watch (JKHRW) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti at state headquarter, Janipur, Jammu. The members & office bearers of executive unit of the state threw light on the teachings, deeds towards avoiding violence of Mahatma Gandhi. The executive body members including Poonam Gupta, Vinay Gupta, Monika Gupta, Amit Kapoor, Deepak Kapoor, Sarita Bhasin, Suresh Singh participated in the programme.
The state chairman and founder patron JKHRW, BL Kapoor while addressing said Mahatma Gandhi is remembered for his deeds in connection with avoiding violence as he believed in Non violence so that the people may enjoy the lives which have been gifted by the God to human beings.
The birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at Kishtwar by the District Congress Committee, Youth Congress, Mahatma Gandhi Foundation and NSUI in a joint function held at office of Block Congress Committee Kishtwar. The function was held under the chairmanship of Pardeep Singh Parihar District Congress Committee wherein Sheikh Ghulam Haider Vice president PCC J&K was chief guest. Speakers on the occasion said "Gandhiji taught us to stand resolutely against fear, to understand the importance of truth and to work for the eradication of poverty, illiteracy and discrimination. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti let us take a pledge to follow the path of truth and non-violence and dedicate ourselves towards promoting peace, tolerance and harmony and work for the progress of the nation". Speakers said that freedom can be achieved through the path of non-violence.
The Congress activists at Kathua celebrated the 141st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 106th birth anniversary of Lal Badhur Shastri with traditional fervour and gaiety. They paid floral tributse to the father of nation and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Various speakers delivered their words to honour the Mahatma Gandhi’s great contribution in Indian freedom movement with peaceful and democratic manners and finally root out the British Empire and get India free. On the occasion MLC and senior most congress leader Subash Gupta, secretary of Pardesh Congress Committee S. Manohar Singh and Rattan Chand Karotra district general secretary Bhupinder Singh (Pinku) threw light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi
The medical staff with CMO Kathua also celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi besides observing the World Leprosy Day to aware the people about the causes and preventions of the Tuberculosis at TB hospital Kathua.
The Gandhian Global Family (GGF) today organized a function to observe “International Non-Violence Day” on the birth anniversary of “Man of the Millennium, Mahatma Gandhi” today here at Nehru Park.
On the occasion, “All faith Prayer” was organized in which hundreds of volunteers belonging to GGF from across the State participated.
Speaking on the occasion, State President, Gandhian Global Family S. P. Verma highlighted the importance of Gandhian ideology and said that it is more relevant in the president world. He said, keeping in view the significance of his ideology, the United Nations Organization has declared the October 2nd, the birth anniversary of Gandhiji as International Non-Violence Day.
On the occasion, 2 minutes silence was also observed in memory of people killed during three months in the State.
Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman, National Panthers Party accompanied by JKNPP President, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA (Udhampur) and Dr. S.C. Singh, Director, Educational Institute today prayed at Raj Ghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi and the Vijay Ghat, samadhi of India’s most loved Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri today. It was birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Prof. Bhim Singh reminded the professional politicians particularly those who have been riding the power tiger least caring for the wretched of the earth and political morality that India is awake and the politicians shall no longer be able to exploit a billion people of India. He prayed at samadies of Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri for the success of the ultimate revolution which alone shall deliver justice and equity to a common man in the streets and the farms.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm by Kawa Group of Institutes where the students and staff of the College participated .
Chairman of the group , M.S. Katoch while speaking on the occasion explained in depth the contributions made by the Father of Nation in the freedom struggle of the country.
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Jammu and Kashmir, today paid tributes to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, which is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti throughout the country.
In this connection, a function under the leadership of State President Shamsher Singh Manhas was organized where the senior functionaries, office bearers and activists of BJP paid floral tributes to Mohan Dass Karam Chand Gandhi and remembered his struggle full life and sacrifice for the nation in general and freedom struggle in particular.
Speaking on the occasion, Shamsher Singh Manhas said, “Mahatma Gandhi was the person who helped India gain freedom from the British. His faith on truth and non-violence revealed from the fact that his birthday is being celebrated as ‘World Non-Violence Day”.
