First ever French Club formed in Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, October 10: For the first time in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, a French language club (club de francais) was formed on Sunday in Jammu. More than 50 French knowing people became the members of this exclusive club, that was formed at Press Club Jammu. The club has been formed to propagate the language in the state and also to give exposure to cultural interaction, awareness about job opportunities involving french language and french speaking nations in the areas of Tourism, corporate industries, education among others. A play highlighting the importance of French language was also performed by various artists that was appreciated by the guests as well as the members. The play was an idea of Shilpa Mahajan, a member of the French club and an MBA professional. Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, Mr M.K. Dwivedi, IAS who was the chief guest on the occasion said that French language has a wide scope not only in foreign countries but could also be helpful in the states like Jammu and Kashmir. “French language has a greater scope in tourism industry and can play a vital tool in bringing foreign tourists to our state that is already famous worldwide” said Dwivedi. He congratulated the members of the club to bring such an exclusive club to the city and said that he was surprised when he first heard about the club. He further said that the club would give the residents of Jammu a wider exposure. S.R. Samuel, IPS who was the guest of honour said, the formation of French language club in Jammu is a new and progressive initiative, that will help those studying french language to get a wider exposure in the international level, “since French is spoken in more than 26 countries and it is the second most influential language in the world” he said. “This club has the potential to promote awareness to aspiring youths in french language related employments in education, civil aviation, Information technology, consulates and United Nations related jobs as well. This club will also help to understand the cultural and linguistic differences and also open one's mind to new ideas and new way of looking at the world” said Samuel. Arun Sharma, who is the French instructor and is teaching French language for the past many years, said that French language holds great importance in the world of today. Arun says “employment is a significant advantage to learning a second language. Bilinguals have access to a wider range of national and international jobs. Thousands of Canadian businesses operate in both French and English. The airlines, import-export companies, and other international businesses require employees with French language skills”. Vikram Sharma, a journalist by profession and also a renowned stage artist said that the endeavour taken up by the youth will bring positive results in near future. He also wished luck to the members. Dr B. Raj Dogra Principal of KC Gurukul School, Palaura said that knowledge of a foreign language apart from English has a great importance in the world of today. “Apart from English, the knowledge of French can boost the career of youths of our state” said Dogra.
