Heritage exhibition “Virasat-2010” enters day 5

JAMMU, Oct 13: Heritage exhibition named “VIRASAT–2010” organized by heritage club of internal quality assurance cell of Government Degree College (GDC) for Boys entered fifth day here today.
Director Sher–e–Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur Dilbagh Singh was special invitee. While having a glimpse of the exhibition, he admired efforts of college to develop this healthy practice which generates understanding among various cultures. Speaking to media persons, he congratulated the college for golden jubilee year.
He said that it takes a lot of efforts to organise such good events. He also assured all possible help to the college in its endeavours. He expressed his satisfaction over the good things happenings in the College. He visited exhibition and interacted cheerfully with the heritage volunteers. He was accompanied by 150 trainees of the academy.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Nutan Resutra accompanied the dignitaries and also interacted with the heritage volunteers. He congratulated and appreciated spirit of their involvement in this naive endeavour of the college. Richly displaying various artifacts of historical and cultural importance, exhibition incorporates a picture gallery on architectural heritage, a glimpse of Dogra heroes, manuscripts, rare documents, nau-ras painting, stone pottery from Ladakh, wall paintings of Jammu, Dogra rulers and fossils.
Heritage volunteers have made an effort to depict bouquet of ethnic cultures of J&K. Clad in the ethnic Dogri, Kashmiri, Gojri and Ladakhi attire, the volunteers could be seen cheerfully singing their culture. A colourful section of Dogra festival “Rah’de” also attracted the visitors. A section on Gujjar/Bakkarwal community spreads the message of attention towards the needy, the downtrodden community by admiring their culture, hence creating an inter-cultural understanding.
Organised in partial collaboration with centre for History and Culture of Jammu and Ladakh regions, Jammu University, the exhibition was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra Prof.(Dr.)R.N.K Bamezai. This exhibition received immense response of students and teachers of various School/Colleges including Bhartiya College of Education, Shivalik College of Education, Kalra College of Information and Technology and Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar and members of civil society.
Anil Paba and Kirpal Singh were the major contributors. This exhibition is a part of the recently launched Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the College. College is also going to hold a heritage walk to Krimachi archaeological monuments where Archaeological Survey of India will make a presentation to the heritage volunteers.
Among its organisers are Prof.Sudhir Singh (Convener), Prof. Gurvinder Raj Verma (Coordinator), Prof.Romesh Chander Sharma (Organiser), Prof.Ajay Kumar Sharma (Organiser) and Prof.Shreya Bakshi (Organiser).
