EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 16: Alleging conversion by Non Governmental Organization (NGO) ‘Youth Movement for Peace’, some miscreants today roughed up the activists of the organization in Dogra Hall area of old city.
About 40 to 50 miscreants entered into the rented residence at Dogra Hall and allegedly beat its members, who reside in a rented accommodation in the locality.
The NGO members including Vikas Sharma, Ranjana Sharma and Rekha Sharma speaking to the media persons alleged that their two colleagues namely Meenakshi and Heena Abrol were thrashed by some unruly mob on the allegations that the NGO is instrumental for conversion.
“They forcibly entered into our rented residence at 4:45 pm and beat our members” Ranjana said. The NGO members including Vikas, Ranjana and Rekha are at present putting up at the residence of one Balbir Singh. They further alleged that it was well planned conspiracy which was hatched by some hooligans in connivance with some senior police officers, who approached them a day before the incident and warned them of possible attack.
The controversy erupted when NGO adopted 27 orphans and victim children of Leh cloudburst disaster.
NGO members emphasized that through their social work they have been providing better life to the orphans with an opportunity for development of their personality but unfortunately some persons with vested interests have labeled them as those who indulge in converting one’s religion.
The sources however said that the NGO, which has its headquarters at 24 Reshamgarh Colony is headed by one David, who is running a Christian missionary.
They further alleged that members of this organization had already found guilty in sensational Samuel conversion case happened last year.
However, police had not registered the case in this connection but as precautionary measure put five security men to guard the residence of NGO members.
After police did not register a case, the NGO activists finally knocked the door of DIG Jammu-Kathua range Farooq Khan for necessary action against culprits.
When contacted DIG Khan said, “The NGO which brought children from Leh has reportedly not completed formalities for their custody which is being investigated. As far as alleged attack is concerned, the police reached the spot and pacified those who were claiming that NGO is trying to convert the children to a particular religion.”
