EARLY TIMES REPORT
GOOL, Oct: UNDER its new major initiative to take theatre to the far-off regions of the state, Natrang, Jammu staged Balwant Thakur’s new play ‘Choona Hai Aasmaan’ at Higher Secondary School lawns Gool (Ramban District).
Mubassir Latifi, SP Ramban was the chief guest on the occasion.
This was for the first time that a professional theatre group of International repute performed its mega theatre show in a remote place like Gool. A twenty-five member group of artists headed by its Director Balwant Thakur arrived here in the morning at the picturesque Gool and enlivened the whole area and its surroundings with a power pact performance.
Thousands of people from Gool and its adjoining areas greeted the presentation of the artists with the standing ovation. People of this remotest part of the state never had the occasion to witness live theatre performance that too by a group like Natrang which performs in metros and at world level stages.
The theme of the play revolved around the problems being faced by the village folk. The director has beautifully portrayed the rural life of the state of Jammu & Kashmir and the problems they are confronting in the present socio-political scenario. In the play a youth of the village is shown striving for progress and excellence in life. But in the absence of cordial and conducive environment he is not able to achieve his desired goals. He finds himself trapped in such a system where people instead of supporting him and his vision are pushing him towards darkness where he will end up ruining himself. He feels strongly that peace is the pre-requisite for any kind of progress and development. His aspiration of scaling new heights and touching the skies could only be achieved when there are no disturbances, no chaos but an inspiring peaceful environment which encourages every-one to aspire and achieve. He has a dream for his village where no one fights in the name of religion, where there is no hatred no separatist thought but a vision of progress and prosperity.
Through various sequences and dramatic actions, the playwright has also portrayed the evils of the society like alcoholism, over-population, neglect of the women folk etc and advocates for the betterment of the society through eradication of evils.
The prominent artists who performed in today’s programme include Dimple Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Rohit Verma, Pankush Verma, Rahul Singh, Tajasvi Sharma, Rajani Bhatti, Divya Kohli, Vikram Sharma, Vasu Gupta, Kuldeep Mehra, Sartaj Singh, Shummy Kalotra, Ashu Kalotra, and Channa. The play has been assisted by Neeraj Kant and the creative team included Sumeet Sharma, Suraj Ganjoo and Rohit Verma (Painter)
Natrang will present similar kind of shows in Thathari (Doda), Kishtwar, Reasi, Nowshera, Rajouri, Thanamandi, and Poonch in coming days.
