EARLY TIMES REPORT
New Delhi, Oct 21: In the chain of shoe hurling incidents witnessed in recent past to register protest and anger, it was the turn of Hurriyat Conference hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani to be on the receiving end . Geelani was heckled by a group of protesters, including Kashmiri Pandits, for his anti India comments and views while he participated in a seminar organized at LTG auditorium complex near Mandi House here today.
The seminar titles "Azadi- the only way " was organized by a group - Committee For Release of Political Prisoners. A large number of protestors holding national triclour and shouting pro India slogans like Bharat Mata Ki Jai……, Vande Matram, raised their pitch outside the convention hall, apparently in a bid to strongly object to his presence. Protestors included a sizable number of activists of Delhi based KP organizations like Panun Kashmir and Roots in Kashmir. Some of them converged outside the hall and virtually gatecrashed making a vain bid to reach up to the Hall. The protestors led by activists of KP organizations barged in and lodged strong protest over presence of Hurriyat hardliner. Outraged and infuriated at the views and comments of speakers in the seminar, the protestors inside shouted slogans against him and even asked him to leave. Some of them who managed to reach dais pushed him even as security personnel intervened and forcibly evicted the protestors from the hall.
It all started as clash between the two groups-one raising pro Azadi and pro Geelani slogans and the other against him. Amidst high pitched sloganeering there was complete pandemonium and chaos at one point of time. A shoe was also hurled towards the Geelani on the dais. However, it missed him. The organizers and security persons covered the Hurriyat chief to protect him from wrath of angry protestors who were taken out forcibly from the hall.
Interestingly, apart from a number of sypathisers of Hurriyat leaders and separatists advocating Azadi for Kashmir, SAR Geelani, a lecturers who was accused in the Parliament attack case as one of the alleged conspirators of the plan, was one of the key participants in the seminar.
Unruly scenes were witnessed outside the hall while the protetsors, many of whom were said be the activists of some other nationalist organizations including RSS holding national tricolour in hands raised pro India slogans even as security personnel resisted their acts and virtually dragged them out from the venue. Dozens of protestors were later detained by the Police.
Dubbing the Hurriyat a leader an agent of Pakistan responsible for the killing of thousands of the nationalist people in J&K including the minority Hindus, the protestors also criticised the Government for allowing Hurriyat leader and their sympathisers to organise the seminar in Union Capital.
Some activists of Sangh also tried to Geelani and the organisers of the seminar and blamed them for what they said they were trying to vitate the peaceful atmosphere in Union Capital as well. Angry protestors took the local administration of Delhi to task for allowing the separatists to hold an open seminar in Union Capital challenging the national integrity and unity. While raising slogans against Geeani and organisers of the seminar the activists of Sangh warned them of serious consequences in case they dare to hold such programmes in Union Capital in near future as well.
Criticising the role of the Government Rakesh Koul president Kashmir Samiti Delhi who also led the demonstration against the Hurriyat leader said that it was unfortunate that the Government of India was encouraging those elements who are hell bent on the disintegration of the nation. ``No nationalist Indian will allow the separtists to succeed in their vicious designs and we are ready to pay any sacrifice in this regard'', he added.
Supporting his views Kundan Kashmiri another KP leader demanded action against the organisers of the seminar as well saying that Kashmir has been made out of bond for the nationalist people by Hurriyat hardliner and Pak sponsored terrorists while they are themselves free to move in any part of India for propagation of secessionist ideology. He warned that the nationalist forces will not allow this to happen.
Kahsmiri Pandit leader also criticized the police for harassing the activists who were protesting against the holding of seminar by the separatists in Union Capital today. He said our struggle for the total integration of Kashmir with rest of the country will continue and we will not be cowed down by the false propaganda of the separatists and terrorists in Kashmir.
Turning tables on Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani Vikram Singh an RSS activist said the separtists have taken this nation for granted. They have launched a tirade in Kashmir against India and now they are trying to organize seminars outside Kashmir to garner support for Azadi which will not be allowed at any cost, he asserted.
Asking Geelani to hold his tongue Singh said the nationalist forces are also organizing a grand seminar in Union Capital tomorrow in support of Kashmir's accession to India in 1947 in which hundreds of Muslims from Kashmir are participating to openly challenge the State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's remarks on merger. ``We will unfold the truth and present the real picture of Kashmir before the nation by unmasking both NC as well as separatists'', he added.
He said the role of Congress will also come to criticism during the seminar which has been backing Omar Abdullah's wrong policies that led to present turmoil in Valley.
