Samooh Theatre holds play reading session | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 24: Samooh Theatre organized a play reading session of Mahesh Dattani's Hindi play "Last Solution" at K.L.Sehgal Hall. The play was read and translated into Dogri namely "Aakhri Hal" (Last solution) by Gian Singh. The play has a powerful contemporary resonance as it addresses an issue of utmost concern to the society, i.e. the issue of communalism. The play presents different shades of the communalist attitude prevalent among Hindus and Muslims in its attempt to underline the stereotypes and clichés influencing the collective sensibility of one community against another. What distinguishes this work from other plays written on the subject is that it is neither sentimental in its appeal nor simplified in its approach. It advances the objective candor of a social scientist while presenting a mosaic of diverse attitudes towards religious identity that often plunges the country into inhuman strife. The play moves from the partition to the present day communal riots. It probes into the religious bigotry by examining the attitudes of three generations of a middle-class business family. The prominent persons who were present on the occasion were N.D Jamwal, Mohan Singh, Shiv Dev Singh Manhas, Randhir Singh Rajpuria, Sh. Janak Khajuria, Inderjeet Kesar, Daya Ram Daya, Ravinder Sharma and Inderjeet Singh Sambyal. Besides the various artists of the theatre and T.V fraternity were also present. Earlier, Sudhir Mahajan welcomed all the guests in his address he said that it is matter of pleasure that one more new play has come in the theatre and it should be welcomed by the writers and theatre fraternity. |
