| Arrangements for Diwali celebrations finalized | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, OCT 28: Arrangements for celebration of Diwali, the festival of lights in Udhampur were finalized at a meeting of District Officers of various departments and eligible cracker sellers held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Baseer Ahmed, here on Thursday.
SSP Udhampur, Mr. Surinder Gupta, Additional District Development Commissioner, Mr. Ram Rattan Shrama, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dr. Gurvinderjeet Singh, Assistant Director, Fire Services, M. Qnasim, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kuldeep Kesar and Tehsildar ( settlement) were present in the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that Subash Stadium, Udhampur would be the site for the sale of crackers where the permitted applicants could install cracker stalls for sale. A team of officers headed by Assistant Commissioner, Revenue would allot the sites for installation of stalls to the eligible applicants at Subash Stadium on October 29, 2010 at 10 A.M. time of sale of crackers has been fixed between 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. till Diwali.
Assistant Director, Emergency Fire Services was directed to prepare a comprehensive plan for the installation of stalls for sale of crackers at the identified site as per the fixed norms. He would also make necessary arrangements for fire fighting tenders to meet out any eventuality during the sale days.
Deputy Commissioner has categorically instructed the officers to ensure that there should be no sale of crackers in the city except the identified location. Any shopkeeper found selling crackers in other locations of the town, strict action under rules would be initiated against him. For the purpose, a team of Revenue Officers headed by Assistant Commissioner Revenue has also been constituted for the constant market check.
Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Udhampur through drum beating, make the public aware about the area identified for the purpose of sale of crackers.
SSP while addressing the meeting asked the vendors to remain extra vigilant and keep a close watch on the suspicious elements who are always bent upon to create disturbance especially during the festive occasions.
