‘Owner of luxury coaches bent to finish off passenger bus service’
10/29/2010 9:36:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 29: Pointing towards a deep-rooted criminal conspiracy between some influential transporters and officials of the concerned departments, the Jammu-Poonch Bus Service Association has expressed serious concern over the attempts being made to destabilise a traditional and democratic transport management which withstood all tests of times for last 50 years.
Reacting to a disinformation campaign launched by owners of luxury coaches, the office bearers of Jammu-Poonch Bus Service Association including its President Bharat Bhushan Gupta, Vice Chairman RP Kohli, Senior Vice President, Sunil Puri and General Secretary Rajinder Sharma said that their apprehensions of imminent danger to the traditional transport sector and threat to livelihood of nearly 3500 families of workers have come true as the government is completely refusing to check the unlawful transport operations.
They alleged that official patronage is being offered to some very rich and politically connected owners of luxury coaches. They said that the democratically elected association is not even being allowed to raise concerns with the government as every attempts is countered by misleading propaganda.
Giving background of the association, the officer bearers led by Bharat Bhushan Gupta said that Jammu-Poonch Bus Association is association of private passenger bus operators still far best managed by any Government run Public Sector Undertaking or Corporation. He said that this is perhaps the only association which provides complete job security to all people associated with the passenger bus service and many facilities including insurance to all their passengers which no transport service can afford to provide.
Reacting to the disinformation campaign led by one Susheel Kapoor, the office bearers of Jammu-Poonch Bus Service Association said that the said person while remaining within the association did the maximum harm as he owned, acquired and patronized luxury buses which run in complete contravention of the rules. He said that under these grounds Susheel Kapoor, Shakti Pandoh, Ashok Anand and Devinder Bakshi were expelled from the Jammu-Poonch Bus Service Association for clash of interests as these people own, and promote luxury coaches running in violation of rules and posing threat to livelihood of more than 3500 families associated with the traditional passenger bus service.
Warning the unscrupulous owners of the luxury coaches who are attempting to finish a traditional passenger transport system, the Jammu-Poonch Bus Service Association has once again appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon and Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda to rescue the traditional transport sector from the clutches of unscrupulous luxury coach owners patronized by the officials of Transport and Traffic Department.
They further said that if an urgent action was not taken by the government it will be seen by the public as if authorities are promoting attempts of widening gaps between rich and the poor.
