SaMaPa Awards 2010 announced | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov. 10: SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) has announced the name of the recipients of this year’s SaMaPa awards. The prestigious ‘SaMaPa Vitasta Award’ which carries cash honour of Rs. 50,000 each is the first ever National level honour pertaining to Kashmir. The award is being conferred upon Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and N. Rajam. The prestigious ‘SaMaPa Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah Award 2010’ which carries cash honour of Rs. 25,000 is being conferred upon the veteran Pahari and Gojri singer Abdul Rashid Qureshi. While Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is being honoured for his lifetime contribution in the field of Indian Classical Instrumental Music - Sarod (Delhi) and Rajam is being honoured for her lifetime contribution in the field of Indian Classical Instrumental Music – Violin (Mumbai) with the prestigious ‘SaMaPa Vitasta Award’, Qureshi is being awarded ‘SaMaPa Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah Award’ for his lifetime dedication and contribution in the field of Pahari and Gojri music (Kashmir) and Mukesh Garg receives ‘SaMaPa Acharya Abhinavgupt Samman’ for his lifetime contribution to Indian music as a musicologist and critic. The award announcement was made by the internationally acclaimed Santoor maestro and composer Abhay Rustum Sopori in New Delhi declaring that the name was selected by Pandit Bhajan Sopori, chairman SaMaPa, and the award selection committee headed by Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Padmashri . Shameem Azad, and other committee members. The award will be presented on the occasion of ‘SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan 2010’ in New Delhi at Kamani Auditorium on the 13th of November.
