Natrang presents Bawa Jito at Jhiri Mela

Jammu, Nov 21: Natrang’s play based on the sacrifice of Bawa Jitto, a farmer hero who laid down his life while defying landlords’ exploitation was held at Jhiri Mela.
Natrang director Balwant Thakur took the initiative about five years back and with the help of district administration and Jhiri Mela Committee has started performing the play based on the life and struggle of Bawa Jitto.
Thousands of people who come from various parts of northern India to pay obeisance at the sacred place of Jhiri Mela also witness the play, thus getting acquainted with the story of the sacrifice of a noble farmer.
To cater to this large number of audiences Natrang uses the video projections to magnify the outreach of the performance.
Speaking on the occasion, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that with few more coordinated and sustained professional efforts, this theatrical venture has the potential to become a global happening.
Set in the rural backdrop, this 15th century folk tale portrays the age-old saga of exploitation of landless farmers by landlords.
Arvind Anand played Bawa Jitto while Juhi Singh enacted as Bua Gauri. Renu Sharma as Chachi Jojan , Mohit Sharma as Malli, Sanjeev Gupta as Isso, Suresh Kumar as Mehta Beer Singh, Vijay Bhatt as Sarpanch & Ghaghi, Dimple Sharma as Rullo and Sajra Qadir as Jeauni were the other actors . The team of actors and technicians who who supporttyed the production included , Pawan Verma, Gaurav Jamwal, Rohit Verma, Rahul Singh, Mohd. Yaseen, Rajani Bhatti, Roohi Singh Kuldeep Mehra, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Dheeraj Singh, Sachin Sawhney, Sunil Sharma, Ranbeer Thakur and little Sohi Sharma.
The traditional songs were rendered by Girdhari Lal and Harbans Lal who are working with Natrang since 1986, The lights were designed and executed by Suraj Ganjo and Gaurav Jamwal. Shummy did the projections. The show was assisted by Neeraj Kant.
