EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 24: In the backdrop of the dubious manner prices have been offered for the acquistion and distribution of land occupied by Shri Mata Vishno Divi University (SMVDU) in Kakryal, Katra a big amount of embezzlement in the land scam is looming large. Initially it was expected to the tune of Rs 70 lakh. Crime Branch sleuths during investigation realized that mutation of land was done wrongly deliberately.
Today, as a part of ongoing investigation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University land compensation scam, Crime Branch sleuths comprised of Inspector Anu Sharma and SI Javed Ahmed led by Additional SP Ranjeet Singh Sambyal visited the site at Kakaryal to have assessment of things on ground. CB team also met those people of the village Kakryal and Sierra whose land is at present under the possession of SMVDU and who alleged that they are cheated by the revenue officials. CB sleuths recorded their statements. Sufferers handed over the documentary proof of their pieces of land to the CB team which after going through the same realized that the revenue officials who were entrusted the job of compensation on that occasion had devaluated the land and distributed prices of land in three categories- Rs 10,000 per kanal, Rs 15,000 per kanal and to maximum of Rs 25,000 per kanal. While the value of the piece of land per kanal was Rs 90,000 on that occasion. When the land was occupied by the government in 2000 land owners were told that they were given the prices of land as per current rate, people alleged to the visited team.
As per sources, after recording statement of the people Crime Branch is now engrossed in tallying the records with the statements of the people. Sources said that if the statements go with the records seized then the approximate embezzlement would go round about 1.8 crore.SSP Crime Branch Johny William when contacted said that the CB would lodged a case in the scam soon as it has reached in depth of the case besides lists of the revenue officials involved in the scam has also been prepared who is to be called for questioning soon.
Pertinent to mention here that nearly a month ago CB team conducted a raid in DC office Udhampur and seized the record. The raid was carried out on the basis of the complaints of the land scam. During inquest scrutiny of record, it was found that SMVDU acquired over 3,506 kanals and 6 marlas of land at Kakryal for the purpose of establishing university. An amount of Rs 8 cr was also granted to the revenue department for its disbursement as compensation by SMVDSB on the behalf of Governor in 2002 The matter was also reported to the Revenue and Relief Minister Raman Bhalla who in his press statement assured free hand to the Crime Branch in busting the scam
