Coordinated efforts break backbone of terrorism in Doda
12/18/2010 9:06:46 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 18: In a multi-agency synergy between the Army, central intelligence agencies and police forces of three states viz a viz J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand, the backbone of terrorism in Marmat area in Doda district has been comprehensively broken with the arrests of four hardcore HM terrorists.
A large cache of arms, ammunition and war like stores were recovered with the nabbing of these terrorists.
In a meticulously planned and coordinated operation which was executed at multiple locations extending from Dehradun in Uttrakhand, Nurpur in Himachal Pradesh and Bihota in Marmat Doda, lasting for over five days, 4 terrorists namely Javed Qureshi, Tanveer, Jameel Ahmed Wani and Ghulam Nabi were successfully apprehended by a coordinated multi agency effort.
Subsequent to their arrest, the terrorists were taken to the higher mountain reaches in Marmat area in Doda district, which led to recovery of cache of arms and ammunition during the intervening night of December 17 and 18.
Cache include one Pika rifle, one Light Machine Gun, one pistol, seven RPG rounds, eleven AK magazines, eight chinese grenades and around 700 rounds of AK rifle ammunition.
Rashtriya Rifles and JK Police deployed in Marmat had continuously tracked the four terrorists by deploying additional forces including temporary operating bases, in the higher mountain reaches. This had made movement, survival and sustenance of the terrorists nearly impossible.
A very effective intelligence network was developed which allowed the Rashtriya Rifles and JK Police to keep a daily track on the activities of the terrorists. Intensity of domination and operations by the Security Force denied the terrorists opportunity to construct hideouts for sustenance during winters. Having come under tremendous pressure, the terrorists decided to move out of the area to places in Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh under the garb of casual labourers to evade the security forces. However, this did not escape the elaborate intelligence network of the Military Intelligence and the intelligence agencies operating in the area.
The level of synergy between multiple counter terrorism organisations came in handy at this stage wherein intelligence was shared systematically with all concerned agencies operating in three different states, leading to apprehension of two terrorists in Dehradun, Uttrakhand besides two terrorists in Nurpur, Himachal Pradesh and subsequent joint interrogation by all, ultimately leading to recovery of the arms cache.
