Shri Mata Vaishno Devi land Acquisition issue
Deprived farmers denied ownership rights of plots
12/21/2010 10:37:57 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATRA Dec 21:- The land purchased by the revenue Department for Mata Vaishno Devi University in 2001 has left many a farmer high and dry with the government failing to confer ownership rights of the plots given to the farmers.
In the year 2001, the state's revenue department purchased about 3000 kanals of land from the local villagers. This land acquisition deprived many farmers of their means of livelihood and also rendered them homeless.
The farmers believe the land was purchased at nominal prices ranging from 10,000-15000-25000 per kanal, thus subjecting them to loss.
To make good the loss, the Trikuta Valley Development Forum including Sardari lal dubey, Bansi lal kosthani( former MLA Reasi), Shiv sharma, Rakesh wazir approached to the then Governor G.C. Saxena, chief minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah in 2001 and urged them to help the deprived farmers.
Responding to the request, the authority had been asked to purchase additional land for making plots measuring 18-18 marals. The plots were given to the deprived farmers.
But it is highly regretable that even after passing of four years, family of late Dharam chand has not been given ownership rights of the plot No-113 which had been sanctioned in the name of Dharam chand s/o Mani ram against the DRAFT NO-3548996, payment of RS 9000 .
Brother Govind Ram and wife Raj kumari of late Dharam Chand told Early Times that as per letter no- LD/ADL/274, DATED- 14-2-2007, the then DDC Udhampur wrote to the then Registrar Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (Karkayal), to hand over the plot no-113 to the owners of Dharam chand. But it is great apathy on the part of S.M.V.D.U. officers, despite running from pillar to post to get justice, nothing has been done so far, as a matter of fact unfortunately we are passing our hard days in an isolated piece of land many kms away from the habitated area.
