| MLA inaugurates mulberry plantation week | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, DEC, 21, 2010:- MLA, Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia inaugurated the week long Mulberry plantation drive by planting a sapling of mulberry plant at Mulberry nursery Cherry, Udhampur today.
The mulberry plantation week was organized by Sericulture Development Department in Udhampur to aware the farmers about the centrally sponsored schemes.
While speaking on the occasion Mankotia advised the farmer to come forward and avail the benefit of various schemes initiated by the State and Central governments for their socio economic transformation. He also issued cheques of worth Rs. 9,50,000 to 48 beneficiaries for construction of separate rearing houses as a second installment under catalytic development programme and Cluster promotion programme of the Centrally sponsored schemes.
Deputy Director, Sericulture, Amaan Ullah welcomed the chief guest on the occasion and gave a detailed resume of various schemes being implemented by the department and also stressed upon the farmers to take sericulture in a big way for upliftment of their economic status. The department is distributing 2.27 lakhs mulberry saplings for plantation among the farmers, he disclosed.
