Debate on police-public relations held

Jammu/Dec 21: Deviating from the normal routine of holding Police Public meetings, District Police Ramban organized a debate in Degree College premises on the topic “Police is Public’s Representative in Uniform”.
Twenty students of Govt. Degree College Banihal highlighted the various facets of the Police work and their dealing with the Public. They welcomed the initiative of inviting the public for highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. DIG of Police,
Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, Sh. M K Sinha, IPS who was Chief Guest on the occasion emphasized the need of having mutual trust and co-operation between police and public.
He said that by organizing these events, police wants society to show the mirror of its
performance by healthy criticism and with the aim of forming a crime free society.
On this occasion, Mubassir Latifi, Superintendent of Police, Ramban said that among the manifold challenges confronting the Police nothing is more crucial and significant than the improvement in Police-Public relations and there cannot be a better
segment of the public than the college students - the backbone of our society who can dwell on this aspect and understand and appreciate the gap between the public expectations and the Police performance. A galaxy of prominent citizens, academicians and intellectuals and a number of Army and CRPF Officers were also present on the occasion Parvez Ahmad, Mohd. Maqbool Naik and Mohd. Yaseen were
adjudged winners of first, second and third prizes respectively. Sh. B L Gupta, Principal Govt. Degree College Banihal appreciated the Police for organizing this competition in his institution and expected that youth will prove an asset for the society in years to come if their energies are channelized by the society in general and teachers and parents in particular.. Jameel Ahmad, SDPO Banihal thanked all the participants as well as prominent citizens for making the event successful.
