Govt will ensure due share to disabled in employment: Sakina | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 21: Reaffirming the assurance of the Government to provide due share to disable persons with employment opportunities, Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo has said that Public Service Commission, Service Selection Recruitment Board and Autonomous Institutions have been directed to adhere strictly to 3% quota reservation for physically challenged persons. She was addressing a gathering after inaugurating 1-day awareness workshop on “Disabilities and their management” organized by Model Institutive of Education and Research and sponsored by Rehabilitation Council of India, here today. Minister said that problem of disability is a worldwide phenomenon, adding that need is to initiate and make the life of these disables comfortable. She said providing artificial aids, financial assistance is not sufficient to bring cheer in their lives but safeguarding their rights for dignified living is more important. Chairperson, Zonal Coordination Committee of Rehabilitation Council of India, (North Zone) Sara Johnson Sara, while highlighting the efforts and activities of the RCI, said that a multipronged and integrated programme, launched by the Council through different schemes, has empowered the disabled to lead a meaningful and dignified life in the society. In his welcome address, Chairman, MIER, Arun Gupta said that NGOs, Government agencies have important role in transforming the life of physically challenged persons, adding MIER has emerged a leading instituted in the State where B.Ed a special education is being run for physically challenged persons. He said IGNOU has recognized MIER as one of the special centres in the country to conduct the courses for disabled persons.
