Kashmiri displaced families rue Haryana Govt's raw deal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu,December 21 : Over 70 families of Kashmiri Pandits continue to be in a state of distress following a raw deal being given to them by the Haryana Government. These Pandit families had purchased 31.5 kanals of land at Bhadurgarh(Haryana) some 18 years ago for the purpose of constructing small dwellings for their shelter. These Pandits formed a society called the Vitasta Welfare Society and each family got their plots registered, according to the Scoiety leaders,O.N.Chandra and M.K.Rangroo.Chandra and Rangroo said that about six years ago the HUDA occupied "our land measuring 31.5 kanals) even without informing the Society office bearers. The HUDA officials later informed that each plot holder would get Rs.25,000 as compensation or their land acquired by it. The Vitasta Welfare Society informed the HUDA that they had purchased the land not for sale but for building small residential houses where they could stay and live for rest of the life. The Society leaders had also informed the HUDA that since each family had paid more money for purchasing the plots the compensation was too meagre to be accepted. Chandra said that during the last four years "we have been moving from pillar to post for securing developed plots in lieu of the land acquired by the HUDA."He said "we approached the Chief Minister,Bhupinder Singh Hooda and he gave a patient hearing and assured us that he would take up the matter the HUDA." He said there was no end to "our" injustice.
Chandra said that the HUDA had allotted developed plots in lieu of land acquired by it from the the Uma Nagri Society adding that if the HUDA allotted developed plots to "us" it will not be a new precedent.
