Vertical division among KPs on PM's rehabilitation package | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 21: There is a vertical spilt among the Kashmiri Pandits over the Prime Minister's return package for the displaced people from the Valley with major KP organizations openly joining the hands to oppose the Government's move in this regard. After the Government recently issued the appointment orders for about 2000 displaced youth to join their services in Kashmir Valley, the sharp differences have cropped up in the community over the linking of the same with return formula. Some of the frontal KP organizations including Panun Kashmir, All State Kashmiri Pandit Solidarity Conference (ASKPSC), Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), Kashmir Samiti Delhi (KSD) and Jammu and Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM) which were against the linking of employment package with return of the community to Valley have decided to take on with the Government and its agents and started a process in this regard. After breaking their silence all the three factions of Panun Kashmir have openly come against the move and termed it a sinister design of the Government. ``We have never opposed the employment package but it was actually Panun Kashmir which took the issue in Round Table Conference (RTC) with Prime Minister'', said Satish Kumar a PK activist. He, while taking the Government to task for misleading the community and hoodwinking the public opinion on the issue said the situation is in no way different in Kashmir than what it was in 1989-90 when the mass exodus took place. This is a ploy to suppress the voice of the community which has been demanding a separate homeland within the Valley in view of the atrocities faced by them through the hands of fundamentalists and secessionist elements since 1947. ``Rejecting the linking of employment with the return KPC president Kundan Kashmiri said the two are separate issues. While return is apolitical issue and can be dealt politically the employment is an economic issue and it has nothing to do with the former, he added. He regretted that some people within the community have been hobnobbing with the Government on the issue without knowing the repercussions of the same. ``Kashmir is at a volcano with volatile situation in Wazaristan in Pakistan and Afghanistan and these developments have influenced Kashmir in past 20 years and they will continue to have their worst impact'' he added. The same were the views of Hira Lal Bhat general secretary JKCM. He criticized the Government for misleading the community on the name of employment and taking undue advantage of its sufferings. Even the senior KP leader AN Vaishnavi who attended the public function in which the Chief Minister handed over the appointment orders to displaced youth and welcomed the move has also been critical of linking employment with return. However the KP organizations including Minority Forum led by PN Takoo, NC Minority and Congress Minority Cells have welcomed the decision and demanded action against those KP organizations who oppose the move. |
