Interlocutors for 'empowering' people of JK | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 21: Asserting that people in all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir are yearning for peace, the three-member team of New Delhi's interlocutors today hinted ed 'empowering' people of the state. The team headed by veteran journalist Dilip Padgaonkar, academician Radha Kumar and former Chief Commissioner Information Department MM Ansari today interacted with the mediapersons on their return from their two-day visit to Rajouri and Poonch districts. ''During our visits in some of the districts across J and K, we have assessed that people need to be 'empowered' at all the levels,'' Padgaonkar, flanked by his team members said. He said besides 'empowerment', civic amenities and education were the top most requisites of the people of neglected areas of the state. ''Basic needs of the people need to be addressed,'' the senior journalist added. He, however, denied favouring Peoples' Democratic Party's (PDP) 'Self Rule' document and said, ''We have welcomed the political parties with their ideas of settling issues of Jammu and Kashmir besides NC's 'autonomy' and PDP's 'self rule' document, but we never supported any of it and no final judgment has been given.'' The interlocutors further said that solving Kashmir issue and meeting the aspirations of people was a time consuming process. ''We don't have a magic band with us. So far, we have covered nine districts and still others are pending,'' Padgaonkar said adding that the interlocutors' visit meant for interacting different shades of society to find out the ground realities and the final report would be submitted to Union Home Minister P Chidambram. On their failure to meet Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) members yesterday following their stage protest, Ms Kumar said, ''We were not aware of the meetings. But in future, it will not be repeated.'' |
