12/22/2010 12:34:29 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 21: PDP leader and MLA from Bandipore, Nizam-ud-din Bhat has strongly condemned the tactics resorted to by the NC led coalition government which are aimed to gag media voice in the state. Media's freedom is paramount for a strong and vibrant democracy, he said
In a statement Bhat while condemning the government attitude particularly towards the Early Times Newspaper, has said such tactics of selective discrimination and harassment at various levels towards a section of print media will not stop the bold voices to speak and highlight truth and disseminate information in an unbiased manner without any favour to the establishment.
PDP leader said the government must understand that free press and media are the soul of any democracy and by putting unnecessary curbs the government is only doing harm to itself. It must allow the newspapers to report the things particularly the functioning of the government so that it is able to take corrective measures wherever needed.
