Declamation Contest J&K lifts Silver Rolling Trophy at the 1st Annual
Inter-State (Northern Zone) Competitions foster friendships and camaraderie: Governor

JAMMU, DEC 24 – The team comprising Mr. Anshul Gupta of the Government M. A. M. College, Jammu, and Priyati Sharma of Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu won the Silver Rolling Trophy, instituted by the Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, at the 1st Annual Inter-State (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest, which was organized by the Department of Higher Education in collaboration with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The Declamation Contest was held at the Government College for Women, Gandhinagar here this evening.
The runner-up trophy was bagged by the team comprising Mr. Rakshit Sharma of the Government GGM Science College, Jammu, and Ms. Sheetal Lalotra of Government Degree College, Kathua.
The Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, who was the Chief Guest, speaking on the occasion said that the objective behind instituting this Silver Rolling Trophy was to provide opportunities to the students of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir regions and the neighbouring Northern Zone States to meet and interact with each other. He added that the getting together of students at such competitions provides the opportunity of their knowing each other and better understanding the feelings and sentiments of people from other areas and regions.
The Governor observed that declamation contests, debates, sports and other extra-curricular activities, besides promoting the spirit of camaraderie, also contribute to bringing out the best among the students, and ensuring their personality development.
The Governor presented the Silver Rolling Trophy to the winning team and also gave away a Trophy to the runner-up team. He gave away individual trophies to Mr. Anshul Gupta of the Government M. A. M. College, Jammu, for being adjudged first; Ms. Priyati Sharma of Government College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu, for standing second and to Mr. Rakshit Sharma of GGM Science College, Jammu, for being adjudged third in the contest. He also gave away consolation prizes to Sheetal Lalotra of Government Degree College, Kathua and Ms. Anshul of Saraswati Nagar, Shimla. He also gave away individual prizes and participation certificates to all the 23 contestants and presented mementos to the Jury comprising Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai, Prof. Rekha Choudhary, Dr. G. M. Dar and Prof. Zeenat Ara.
