Amid growing feud in Jamait-Islami Party Amir expels 13 supporters of Geelani
7/28/2006 7:56:28 PM
Srinagar,July 28 :-The moderate faction in Jamait-e-Islami,headed by Amir,Mr Nazir Ahmed Kashani, has hit back at the hardliners by expelling 13 supporters of Syed Ali Shah Geelani from the membership of the organisation.
Jamaat sources said that most of the people expelled from the organisation were members of the recently constituted "Save Constitution Movement".The convenor of the committee,Mr Abdul Khaliq Sofi, was among the 13 people expelled from the party.
The sources told Kashmir Independent Press on Friday that these 13 members, expelled from the membership of Jamait-e-Islami,were "small fries." They had been included in the "Save Constitution Movement" by Syed Ali Shah Geelani to counter what he called "unconstitutional" steps taken by the Jamaat leadership for orgamising the organisational election.
Sources said that "this was the first step and in case Mr Geelani and other senior Jamaat members continued to oppose the ongoing party elections they too would be expelled from the party.Mr Geelani and three of his associates, including Mr Mohd.Ashraf Sehrai, had been suspended from the organisation four months ago."
They had been suspended on charge of having floated Tehrik Hurriyat Conference when under the Jamaat constitution no member of Jamait-e-Islami could lead or run any other organisation.
Though the expulsion of 13 people from the membership of Jamait-e-Islami is a warning for Mr Geelani,he,however, was not going to accept any "dictation" from the camp headed by Mr Kashani.Mr Geelani has decided to continue his campaign against the camp led by Mr Kashani.
