Jammu Feb 25: As the countdown begins for commencement of Budget session of Assembly, the political parties have stepped up activities aimed at drawing up strategies to be adopted in over month long proceedings in the winter capital. The ruling National Conference which had earlier scheduled its Legislative party meeting today has now convened it tomorrow while as opposition will hold this meeting on February 27. The crucial meeting of coalition partners related to the budget session has been convened by the Chief Minister on February 28 evening.

The National Conference, according to sources will primarily take up the agenda of Parliamentary matters in the meeting tomorrow which apart from all legislators will also be attended by the Patron of the Party Dr Farooq Abdullah besides Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Sources said the NC leadership will thoroughly take up all the pieces of legislation to be introduced or passed during this session. This will include all vital bills, resolutions and other related matter that will come up during the course of proceedings in both the Houses. In presence of the high command the NC legislators will discuss and deliberate upon these matters , particularly some bills which are politically significant for the party, sources said.

In the meeting tomorrow while as the thrust will be on general strategy to adopted by the party MLAs during the session, but the focus will also be on the implications of each piece of legislation or even the resolution these are likely to have on the party and accordingly what role the MLAs are expected to adopt while voting for or against the pieces of legislations, sources added. It is pertinent to mention that there are speculations NC might come up with a resolution seeking settlement of the Kashmir issue in the House on the lines party expects it to happen politically. However, no leader has yet confirmed whether the High Command has yet given its approval for that or not.

While NC will draw up its own strategy in the meeting tomorrow, the meeting of coalition partners has been convened on February 28 evening. Even as this is a customary meeting held every time ahead of Assembly session, but this time it assumes significance for more than one reason. Sources said in this meeting the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will prevail upon both the alliance partners to adhere to coalition dharma in real spirit and make every effort to put up a joint face of the coalition government in the Houses to counter opposition which is expected to be aggressive and assertive on many counts. The Chief minister will not only stress on the unity of the coalition partners but will also prevail upon the Congress to conduct itself as a cohesive unit during the session and not allow many voices from within the party to emanate, sources said adding this has become imperative in the wake of the two factions of Congress deepening fissures lately. In order to not face any embarrassment in the House on account lack of coordination either between the coalition partners as also between the Congress legislators in both the Houses, the meeting will stress on maintaining unity on all crucial matters.
