State govt a puppet in hands of centre: Geelani
5/15/2011 10:59:49 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, May 15: Terming the state government as ‘puppets’ in the hands of New Delhi, separatist leader and Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said state government has no role in the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir and it is being used at international level by New Delhi to show the world community that there is an elected government.

“Chief Minister Omar Abdullah can’t even transfer a police officer on his own…. He has to take permission for that from New Delhi first,” Geelani said

Quoting example of recent Dogra Certificate issue, Geelani said, “When the order had to be revoked, Omar Abdullah had to beg before New Delhi to revoke the order. State rulers have mortgaged their honour with New Delhi to remain in power.”

Reacting to General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Army’s northern command, Lt General K T Parnaik, yesterday’s statement that time was not ripe for removing AFSPA from the state, Geelani said that there was martial law prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, Geelani said, “Without the permission from the Army, no decision is taken in the state. AFSPA is a certificate for troops in Kashmir and under its garb they can kill Kashmiris.”

“Indian Army is involved in war crimes in Kashmir and to hide those they need black laws like AFSPA. This is the reason why Army generals always support AFSPA,” he alleged.

Geelani alleged that Kashmir had become a ‘profitable venture’ for Indian Army. “They (Army) are looting our resources with both hands.

Army doesn’t want that peaceful solution of Kashmir problem emerges as that will harm their interests. They want chaos and confusion as that suits their interests,” he alleged.

He appealed to the international community to put pressure on New Delhi for withdrawal of the AFSPA.
