J&K the second most corrupt state
Ramdev & Anna
6/17/2011 11:40:29 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 17: According to the Transparency International India (TII), J&K is the second most corrupt state in India, which itself is the most corrupt country in the world with corrupt elements having stashed nearly 400 lakh crores of Indian rupees in the foreign banks, mostly in Switzerland. However, insiders contest on the condition of anonymity the conclusion of the TII and say J&K is not the second most corrupt state but the most corrupt state in the country. Their view is that there are several persons in and outside the establishment who became multi-millionaire overnight. They do make a valid point.
Whatever the truth the fact remains that J&K is a corrupt state. It is obvious the situation in the state is conducive for the birth of the likes of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and social activist Anna Hazare, who are being despised, abused, and even threatened by the Congress-led UPA Government. However, there are people who ask: will the state government allow the rise of Ramdevs and Hazares? What has prompted them to ask this question was the decision of the state government to deport Gautam Navlakha from Kashmir a few days ago on the ground that his presence in the Valley might trigger anti-government protests. Another development that has made this section of people raise this question is the demand of the NC leadership that the entry of the likes of Ram Jethmalani into Kashmir should also be banned because they come to Kashmir only to create troubles for the government.
One cannot agree with this section of the people when it questions the decision of the state government on Navlakha or the demand of the NC that seeks ban on the entry of Ram Jethmalani into the state, notwithstanding the fact that the approach of the NC leadership towards India and the Indian Constitution is also questionable. The decision to deport Navlakha was right and the demand of banning the entry into the state of Jethmalani also appears quite reasonable. After all, both Navlakha and Jethmalani are the ones who have been fomenting troubles in Kashmir since years by flirting with anti-national forces and singing the Pakistani song.
But one surely feels constraint to share the apprehension of this section of the people that the state government might not allow the likes of Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare to take birth in J&K on the ground that their birth might lead to a turmoil in the state of the type the nation witnessed in April and June this year with Hazare and Ramdev in the forefront of the anti-corruption crusade. What the Congress did to Ramdev and his followers, including women and children in the midnight of June4 and 5 is not a secret. Similarly, it is now also too well-known that the Congress might adopt similar approach towards the determined Hazare in order to kill the movement he has been leading against corruption.
One can only hope and pray that the state government would not imitate the UPA Government and allow Ramdevs and Hazares to fight out corruption.
