PDP patron becomes a crowd puller | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 17: Apart from having the distinction of heading an era of development and peace, the Peoples democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayed has slowly but surely become a crowd puller. The largely attended pubic meeting in South Kashmir yesterday proves it beyond doubt. There is no denying the fact that the political strength of a politician cannot be measured by the number of people attending his rally as most of them are hired but Mufti's rally was different. Mufti had no intention of proving his mettle yesterday in South Kashmir. It was proved at Zainakote in the outskirts of Srinagar on the Jehlum Valley Road. Members of the ruling coalition joined PDP. This was again a a function with a difference. Members of ruling alliance joined the opposition. A senior National Conference worker while addressing the function hosted in his honour said he was impressed by the dynamic leadership of PDP and its pro-people policies. It is also a fact that PDP is better placed in South Kashmir. But dislodging a party like National Conference in South Kashmir speaks volumes about Mufti's charismatic personality. No other politician has succeeded in making NC sit on the opposition benches. Some of the participants in yesterday's meeting see a savior in Mufti. The had come on their own to listen to Mufti. Nobody had `hired' them. People have not forgotten the disbanding of special operations group (SOG) and suspending Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) in 2002 when Mufti took over as Chief Minister of the state. Mufti also scored a point at other front. During his regime, the bus plied on Jehlum Valley road after fifty years. These are some of the reasons that drew people to Mufti's rally yesterday. |
