Jammu leadership letting us down, say Jammu youth | Rs 1000-Crore Package For K Youth | | Neha Jammu, Aug 24: Hats off to the Kashmiri leaders, without any exception. They are shrewd, canny and committed. They blackmail and browbeat New Delhi and the Delhi-based political class and obtain what they want. They further their own personal agendas in collaboration with the powers-that-be in New Delhi. Their views carry weight as they have connections at right places in New Delhi. New Delhi just cannot question them. They have created such a situation by their political behaviour. They also promote the cause of the constituencies they represent. They coin arguments and arguments to convince the authorities in New Delhi of their demands seeking special packages for the people of Kashmir, including youth, militants, hoteliers, traders, shikarawalas and so on and they come out victorious. During the last more than two decades, they have succeeded in making New Delhi announce several packages. The latest being the just launched a Rs 1000 crore "major training-cum-placement programme that aims at "keeping the Kashmiri youth away from separatism." As reported today in your Early Times, the programme would be implemented in five years. The first component worth Rs 235 crore" was launched by Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh on August 22. The "second component would be launched by Ministry of Home Affairs" and it will "provide jobs to 40,000 skilled youth like engineering. Medical, nursing or science graduates at a cost of Rs 1000 crore." "First batch of 800 youth, mostly from poorer families and school and college drop-outs, will roll out from training centers on December 20 this year." Compare the Jammu leaders with their counterparts in Kashmir and you will see the difference. The Jammu leaders have no ideology, no commitment and no say. They have nothing to offer to the people of Jammu province. Nobody in New Delhi knows the Jammu leaders. Nobody in New Delhi listens to them. They always look towards their masters in New Delhi who tell them to keep their mouth shut and not say anything the Kashmiri leaders dislike. In fact, the Jammu-based leaders belonging to the so-called mainstream parties like the Congress and the BJP are no more than clowns. They do not speak even when the provocation is grave or when the arrogant Kashmiri leaders cause an affront to the self-respect of the people of Jammu province. They are s helpless. They are helpless because they are weak and because they are not politicians with mass experience. There is no difference whatever between the Congress leaders and the BJP leaders. They never speak. Nor do they express their views because they feel any assertion on their part would annoy the central leadership. They did not speak when the people of Jammu in general and the student community in particular were struggling for the Central University. They did not speak when the NC-Congress coalition government withdrew that order under which the Dogras were entitled to obtain Dogra Certificate. They had acted in a similar fashion in 1998 and 2008. Some of them did speak in 2008 when the protesting people in Jammu directed their ire towards the Jammu-based leadership. Theirs' was a reluctant response. The people of Jammu won both time because they were destined to win as they were committed to the cause they had taken up. The Jammu-based leaders, with a couple of exceptions, also hobnob with the Kashmiri leaders to promote their petty interests. They even vote for the NC. There are instances and instances which show that most of the Jammu-based leaders have willingly and cheerfully endorsed what their counterparts in Kashmir did to harm Jammu and jeopardize national interest in Kashmir. And, it is hardly necessary to catalogue here such instances as everyone on Jammu is fully aware of each one of them. That the Jammu-based leaders belonging to the Congress, the BJP, the NC and the have nothing to do with the people of Jammu province could be seen from their indifferent attitude towards the just-announced Rs 1000-crore major training-cum-placement programme aimed at keeping the Kashmiri youth away from separatism. None of the Jammu-based leaders has questioned the decision of the Union Government. The attitude of the Panthers Party and political groups like Jammu State Morcha has been no different. They do speak but rarely and they do not come on the streets to show solidarity with the suffering youth. They, like the BJP, issue press statements believing that they have done their job. Something is fundamentally wrong with the Jammu leadership. It must retrospect and ape the Kashmir leadership. Leave alone the Kashmiri leadership. Ape the Telangana leadership. But will they do so and come up to expectations of their constituencies? It appears, they will not. In other words, it is again for the Jammu youth to intervene and defend and promote their genuine cause. In fact, the Jammu youth has already made up its mind to take on the Union Government and the Kashmiri leadership. Several students and unemployed youth told this correspondent today that "they are fed up with the kind of leadership Jammu has produced." So much so that they have accused the Jammu-based leadership of "letting them down again and again." This is the people's assessment about those who shamelessly masquerade as Jammu leaders. |
