‘Revival of militancy may prove disastrous for state’ | | | early times report Jammu, June 9: The ruling coalition and the opposition are worried over resignation of Panchayat members. The trend, it is believed, may have an adverse impact on the overall security scenario of the state. It may also impact the on-going tourist season which was expected to reach its zenith this year. The army, paramilitary and the police have been directed to resume night patrolling in rural areas where militant outfits have been threatening the panches and sarpa-nches to resign. The practice had been abandoned in most of the areas following improvement in the situation for the past two years. The revival of militancy is dreaded by the pro-Indian and a section of separatist camp. While the PDP holds the ruling coalition responsible for the ‘disturbing’ trend, newly launched militant outfits believe the peaceful methods have not yielded any results. According to them, revival of militancy was the only way out. Significantly, the Muzaffarabad based United Jehad Council (UJC) and Hizbul Mujahideen chief, Salah-ud-Din also issued a statement yesterday saying armed struggle alone could solve the problem. Political experts warn against perceiving the latest trend in isolation. The killings, they said, cannot be ignored while analyzing the present situation. While the politicians blame each other , the commoner has kept his fingers crossed. He can only pray for peace. He alone knows that revival of militancy can prove disastrous for the state. |
