Jammu, Jan 9: Although Sheetal Devi was born without hands in a family that lacked access to basic amenities she never gave up and dreamt of big. She proved it by winning medals in different events at the international level.
India's para-athlete Sheetal Devi was honored with the Arjuna Award from the President of India on Tuesday.
Hailing from a remote mountain village in Kishtwar district of Jammu Kashmir, affected by terrorism, Sheetal was born without hands in a poor family. Life was full of challenges for her and her family. Her parents never gave up, then in 2019, 11 Rashtriya Rifle Northern Command adopted her, helped her family, gave her opportunities locally, and then in 2021, approached Meghna Girish, mother of Major Akshay Girish, for artificial limbs.

| | NEET-PG 2024 exam rescheduled | | | New Delhi, Jan 9: The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Postgraduate examination has been rescheduled to July 7 this year, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences said on Tuesday.
The cut-off date for the purpose of eligibility for the exam this year is August 15.
The exam was earlier scheduled to be held on March 3.
“In supersession of NBEMS notice dated 09.11.2023 and pursuant to the receipt of NMC letter dated January 3, 2024, the conduct of NEET-PG 2024 examination, which was earlier notified to be tentatively held on March 3, 2024, stands rescheduled,” the NBEMS said in a notice.

SRINAGAR, Jan 9: Coldwave conditions continued in Kashmir due to sub-zero temperatures despite some respite from the bone-chilling cold in the Valley, officials said on Tuesday.
On Monday, Srinagar recorded a night temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, up from minus 4.3 degrees the previous day, the officials said.
Qazigund recorded a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius against minus 4.2 degrees on Sunday. The night temperature in the ski resort town of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was minus 4.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, slightly down from the minimum temperature the previous night.

SRINGAR, Jan 9: Security forces recovered arms and narcotics near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said on Tuesday.
The police said a person has also been picked up for questioning.
Based on a specific input, the arms and narcotics were recovered from Keran Payeen near Cobra Post view point along River Kishanganga, a police official said.
He said an AK-47 rifle, two AK magazines and packets of narcotics-like substance were recovered from the spot.
