Jammu, Oct 6: The nomination process for four Rajya Sabha seats from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir began on Sunday with the issuance of notifications by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Although no nomination papers were filed on the opening day, hectic political activity has begun across parties as leaders work to finalize their candidates.
The Election Commission has issued three separate notifications for the four Rajya Sabha vacancies from Jammu and Kashmir. Voting under all three notifications will involve the same 88 legislators, who will cast their votes three times to elect the four members of the Upper House.

As part of its Shatabdi Varsh (Centenary Year) celebrations, the Sangh will organize a series of special programmes in the Union Territory, with a renewed focus on engaging the youth.

Srinagar, Oct 6: Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches and showers in the plains of Kashmir on Monday led to a sharp drop in day temperatures in the valley, officials said.
Snowfall was reported from Sinthan Top in Anantnag district, Affarwat in Gulmarg, Zojila Pass, Bangus in Kupwara, Razdan Pass in Gurez valley and other higher-altitude areas, they said.
Light to moderate rainfall was witnessed in the plains of Kashmir, including Srinagar city, they added.

Srinagar, Oct 6: Police in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir have registered a case against the administrator of a Facebook page for allegedly spreading false and misleading information about the slaughtering of a horse.
According to a police spokesperson, the Facebook page — ‘Kashmir Speaks’ — had shared a video of a dead horse, claiming that it was slaughtered so that its meat could be sold in the market.
“Budgam police have registered an FIR against the administrator of a Facebook page titled ‘Kashmir Speaks’ for spreading false and misleading information on social media,” a police spokesperson said.
