Process to equip VDGs with modern arms to be expedited | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 9: After the martyrdom of two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the Kuntwara forest of Kishtwar district, the Home Ministry has expedited the process of equipping these members with modern weapons. Although the process of providing modern weapons to the VDG members has been ongoing for the last six months, it will be further accelerated after terror attacks in the mountain districts of Doda and Kishtwar.
Sources said that before equipping VDG members with sophisticated weapons, they will impart special training by the different security agencies including the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in different areas.
As reported earlier, the government has decided to equip VDGs with advanced weapons and their remuneration will be increased. The government is taking significant steps to boost the capabilities of VDGs in Jammu and Kashmir.

KISHTWAR/JAMMU, Nov 9: The last rites of the two Village Defence Guards martyred by terrorists were performed near their village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Saturday, with locals demanding security and adequate relief, including a Government job for each of the two families.
