Despite High Court’s directions, hospitals continue to face shortage of doctors | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 24: The Union Territory of J&K is confronting the shortage of doctors in all health institutions even in medical colleges of Srinagar and Jammu which are facing huge pressure of patients.
According to reports posts of Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Registrars and Lecturers are lying vacant in GMC Jammu only. As per reports forty-seven posts of Assistant Surgeon are lying vacant in Government Medical College Jammu. The deficiency impacts patient care as well as the health system in the UT of J&K.
This is the shortage of doctors in urban areas but the situation is worst in rural areas.
Two years ago on April 23, 2021, a Division Bench of the High Court expressed serious concern over the failure of the Government to overcome the acute shortage of doctors in the rural areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir even after repeated directions during the past three years.

Srinagar, Apr 24: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday attached a house and two kanals of land belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahudin’s two sons in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam and Srinagar districts, officials said.
A team of NIA officials first attached a house in Ram Bagh area here registered in the name of Syed Ahmed Shakeel, son of designated terrorist Salahudin, they said. “The house, registered in the revenue records in the name of Syed Ahmad Shakeel, was attached by the NIA on court orders under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,” an NIA official said.

Jammu, Apr 24: Special Judge NIA Jammu Ashwani Sharma after 19 years of investigation and trial, awarded life-imprisonment to three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen in a terror funding case.
The OGWs who were awarded life imprisonment are Majid Ali Sheikh, Shah Nawaz and Majid Amin.

New Delhi, Apr 24: The NIA is keeping itself in readiness to initiate proceedings in view of the possible extradition of 2008 Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Rana to India from the US by the next month, official sources said on Monday. Recently, a US court had dismissed a status conference motion moved by 62-year-old Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, stating that it anticipates a ruling on his extradition to India within 30 days.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing into his role in the 26/11 attacks carried out by Pakistani terrorists in 2008. He was arrested in the US on an extradition request by India for his role in these attacks.

Poonch/Jammu, Apr 24: More than 40 persons have been detained for questioning as part of a massive operation currently underway to track down the terrorists involved in the Poonch terror attack, officials said on Monday.
Additional troops have been inducted to further intensify the cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in Bhata Dhurian-Tota Gali and neighbouring areas. As the operation entered fourth day on Monday with engagement of multiple security agencies, the entire belt is put under cordon, they said.

Jammu, Apr 24: Police on Monday arrested one government employee for allegedly raping a woman in the guise of a ‘tantrik’ in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba, Benam Tosh said that PHE employee has been arrested for committing rape on a middle-aged woman in the guise of a ‘tantrik’ after inducing her to visit his house on the pretext of healing her skin disease.

Srinagar, Apr 24: A civilian was shot at and injured by unknown gunmen in Marhama area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday evening.
An official said that militants fired upon a civilian identified as Aqib Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Ismail Dar of Jafer Pora Marhama.
