Who’ll own responsibility for COVID-19 mortalities in Jammu, ask people | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 29: With over one thousand Covid deaths and counting, the winter capital of Jammu has become the only district in Jammu and Kashmir to have suffered the maximum mortality in the Union Territory, raising concerns over “negligence” on the part of the concerned.
Taking no lessons from the allegedly poor arrangements for the first wave of the deadly pandemic, the authorities including those at the helm in the health care sector, were caught napping in the second wave as well.
While Jammu has witnessed maximum mortality in the month of May alone, it remains the second -worst affected district with regard to the number of positive cases. Till May 27, Jammu witnessed 49395 cases, while Srinagar, on the other hand, recorded 63825 cases, highest in the UT.
Such shocking mortality in the twin capitals raises brows over the role of concerned officials. The City of Temples crossed 1,000 casualty figure on May 26. Of the over 1,000 deaths in Jammu, 535 deaths took place in May alone.

Only trial run of DRDO hospital beings | Delay in recruitment process plays spoil sport | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 29: Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Saturday inaugurated the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) 500-bedded Covid Hospital and dedicated the facility to Jammu. After the inauguration of the hospital, a trial run has started in this institute which is going to give big relief to the people.
Instead of shifting Covid patients in the hospital after its inauguration, higher-ups in the health department have started a trial run. It is stated that the formal functioning of the hospital will be started within couple of days after completion of the trial run.

Jammu, May 29: Five districts were placed in the ''red category'' as the Jammu and Kashmir State Executive Committee (SEC) on Saturday came out with a fresh classification of the districts effective from May 31 for Covid containment in the union territory.
Pulwama and Anantnag in south Kashmir, and Baramulla and Kupwara in north and Budgam in central Kashmir have been put in the ''red zone'' along with the areas on either side of the Jawahar Tunnel, the gateway to the valley, an order issued by Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam said.
