Undeterred by terror attacks, Centre asks J&K admin to conduct Assembly polls before Sep 30 | | |

Jammu, June 14: Undeterred by the recent terror attacks in Jammu province, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre has decided to continue with the process of conducting maiden assembly elections in the Union Territory.
While the central leadership of the BJP has asked the local unit to start preparations for the Assembly polls, authorities at the higher level have already conveyed the message to the J&K administration about the conduct of polls before September 30.
Sources said that participation of people in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir has encouraged the Union Government to go for Assembly polls.
“People’s overwhelming participation in the Parliament elections has reposed common masses’ faith in the democracy and democratic institutions of the country so the Union Government wants to build up on this positive atmosphere”, sources said and added that preparations for Assembly elections will go simultaneously with this year’s Amarnath Yatra.

Jammu, June 14: Five residents of Jammu and Kashmir’s Makdi village have been rewarded for foiling a bid to smuggle about 10 kg of heroin from across the Line of Control, an official said on Friday.
The police headquarters has sanctioned Rs 4 lakh as reward money for the villagers for their “heroic display of bravery and patriotic act”, a police spokesman said.
