| On FC’s register, J&K lists Rs 15,000 Cr desire, Rs 15,598 Cr demand | | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar/Jammu, July 1: If the visiting Finance Commission headed by Chairman Vijay Kelkar goes by the desperate pleas of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather, Jammu and Kashmir can be just the second name of development and prosperity between 2012 and 2017 –the period of Thirteenth Five Year Plan.
In its presentation to the Finance Commission, the state government has projected case in two ways –one is desire and other is demand. The desire is for Rs 15,000 Crores to fund power projects of 1500 Mega Watts in the State sector. And the demand is strictly for Rs 15,598 Crores. It may be mentioned here that Five Year Plan of Jammu and Kashmir was rolled out at Rs 1151.71 lakhs.
The demands projected by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather include meeting financial burden raised by implementation of 6th pay commission which is calculated as Rs 1700 Crores annually and Rs 4200 Crore arrears.

Katra, July 1: Despite intense summer heat, even as more than 35,000 pilgrims are daily rushing in to pay obeisance at the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Trikuata Hills, the daily pilgrimage influx to this second most frequently visited shrine in the country has remained around 21,000 since January 1, this year.
Releasing the half yearly figures of pilgrimage, a spokesman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said that over 37.23 lakh pilgrims from various parts of the country have so far visited at the holy cave shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno devi ji since January Ist this year.

New Delhi, July 1: Raman Srivastava has been appointed as the next Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF).
Srivastava will replace M.L.Kumawat who retires on July 31. He will be the Director General of the BSF from August 1 until his superannuation on October 31, 2011 or till further orders.
Currently, Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Srivastava is an IPS officer of the 1973 batch and belongs to the Kerala Cadre.

Jammu, July 1: Ahead of a bad morning, the petrol pumps in the town this evening saw unprecedented long queues of vehicles rushing there to fill their tanks to full as television channels beamed the news of hike in petrol and diesel prices.
It was a last minute rush to save few bucks as hiked prices come into effect by the midnight. And the rush was not quite out of place as price went up substantially whooping by Rs 4 on petrol and Rs 2 on diesel. Srinagar, July 1: Airfares to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir has increased almost four times the normal cost, as the number of tourists visiting the valley multiplied in the recent weeks.
During the month of May, the airfare from national capital to Srinagar was reported to be in the range of rupees 2500 to 3500, which has now touched the mark of rupees 14,000 to 15,000.
“We come here every year and used to pay around rupees 3000 for each ticket, which this year has gone up to rupees 15,000 for one way. Fares have really skyrocketed,” said Sarvesh Joshi, a tourist in Srinagar.

Jammu, July 1: Three militants were killed in an encounter with army in Doda district of Jammu, official sources said on Wednesday.
According to defence ministry spokesman, Lt Col Biplab Nath the troops of 8 Rashtriya Rifles launched an operation at Doodwah, 10 kilometers north of Doda following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
As the troops were advancing, militants opened indiscriminate firing which was retaliated.
In the ensuing gun battle that started around 5PM, three militants were killed, he said. The operation was still in progress when last reports came in, he added.
