Jammu, Aug 9: In a historic boost to regional connectivity and commerce, the first freight train successfully reached Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, marking a major milestone in the integration of the Valley with the national freight network.
The freight train, carrying 21 BCN wagons of cement from Rupnagar in Punjab, arrived at the newly commissioned Anantnag Goods Shed in less than 18 hours—covering a distance of nearly 600 kilometers. This is the first-ever cement consignment for the facility, which is now fully equipped to support the region’s growing logistical and infrastructure needs.

SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Two Army soldiers were martyred and as many injured in an overnight gunfight with terrorists in Kulgam district, in one of the longest anti-terror operations in the Valley that entered the ninth day on Saturday, officials said.
The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, in a post on X, paid tributes to the soldiers martyred in the encounter and said that the operation was still underway.

Jammu, Aug 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday conducted searches at 26 houses, including that of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Mohammad Amin Bhat alias “Jehangir Saroori”, in a massive clampdown on the terror ecosystem in the Kishtwar district, officials said.
Besides Bhat, the raids mostly targeted homes of terrorists operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, and smuggling arms and ammunition from across the border, they said.
