Vigilance clearance mandatory for employees before obtaining passports

Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 16: After constituting a panel to identify terror-friendly employees, the Jammu and Kashmir government has made it mandatory for all its employees to get vigilance clearance for obtaining passports. The J&K government has taken this step amid reports that some ‘tainted’ employees have managed to leave the country without facing trials of their ‘misdeeds’ and corrupt practices. “The passport to the citizens including government employee is issued on the basis of verification carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The current system does not contain any mechanism as would help to deny the passport to such employees who are either under suspension or facing departmental inquiry or prosecution on account of serious charges,” reads a government circular, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) today. Currently, a government employee is only required to inform his employer for applying for a passport on a prescribed form. Corruption case: ACB sleuths raid ARTO Kupwara

Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 16: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday again raided the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO), Kupwara, in north Kashmir in a corruption case pertaining to issuing of licenses in lieu of bribe. The raid comes about two weeks after the ACB arrested Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Kupwara, Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi, Motor Vehicle Inspectors Khursheed Ahmad Kanna and Abdul Hamid Bhat, besides a broker Bilal Ahmad Sheikh.
