Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Aug 8: The Amarnath Yatra 2026 will remain suspended from August 9 on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to ongoing track restoration and maintenance works following recent rains, coupled with adverse weather conditions forecast over the coming days, officials said.
The 57-day annual pilgrimage, which commenced on July 3, 2026, simultaneously from the Chandanwari route in Anantnag district and the Baltal route in Ganderbal district, is scheduled to culminate on August 28 with the traditional Chadi Mubarak ceremony.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said that more than 4.8 lakh pilgrims have so far performed darshan at the Holy Cave Shrine during the ongoing Yatra.
“More than 4.8 lakh pilgrims have performed darshan at the Holy Shrine so far. However, due to the recent rains, the need for repair and maintenance of the Yatra tracks at vulnerable stretches has been felt. The restoration work is being undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO),” Garg said.
He further said that the decision to suspend the pilgrimage has also been taken in view of the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the next few days.
“Adverse weather conditions have been predicted by the IMD over the next few days. Hence, the Yatra shall remain suspended from both routes with effect from August 9, 2026,” the Divisional Commissioner said.
Garg added that the traditional Chadi Mubarak procession would proceed through the Pahalgam route and mark the formal culmination of the Amarnath Yatra 2026 on August 28.
He appealed to all pilgrims to strictly follow the advisories and directions issued by the competent authorities from time to time, stressing that adherence to safety guidelines is essential for the safe and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
