Jammu, Aug 31: Pakistan's covert games along the border show no sign of letting up. From suspicious balloons to mysterious birds, the frontier villages of Jammu have grown used to unwelcome surprises drifting across the line and Monday morning brought yet another.
A suspicious pigeon, discovered in the border village of Chhan Khatrian under Hiranagar sub-division, has triggered an alert among security agencies and sent a ripple of unease through the local community.
According to reports, a villager spotted the bird in his fields early in the morning. When he moved to catch it, he found a ring fastened around its leg — one bearing what is being described as a Pakistani mobile number. Adding to the intrigue, the pigeon's wings carried distinct markings in white, black, and green, fuelling suspicion among residents that this was no ordinary stray bird.
Word of the discovery spread quickly, and the bird was swiftly handed over to police. The ring — and the Pakistani number etched on it — has now become the focus of an active investigation by security agencies, who are working to establish where the pigeon came from and, more crucially, why it was fitted with a ring carrying a Pakistani contact number in the first place.
This is far from an isolated incident. Border villages in the region have repeatedly reported suspicious balloons and unidentified objects drifting in from across the frontier in recent months. Against that backdrop, the discovery of a pigeon marked with a Pakistani number has been taken seriously, with agencies treating it as a matter warranting close security scrutiny rather than dismissing it as a stray curiosity.. | | |
