Jammu, Sept 29: Jammu Police have busted a counterfeit currency racket operating from a rented house in the Chowadi area of the city. Three men from other states were arrested in the operation.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by SDPO City East Sanchit Sharma raided the house in Upper Chowadi on Monday late evening. The team recovered fake notes worth Rs 13,500, along with a scanning machine, a printer, a computer and other material used to make counterfeit currency. A sharp-edged weapon was also seized from the spot.
The accused have been identified as Vijay Sahni, originally from Siwan, Bihar, currently living at Preet Nagar, Digiana, Rahul Ahirwar, originally from Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, currently living at Marble Market, Jammu, and Inderpal Kumar, originally from Sahibganj, Jharkhand, currently living at Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
Preliminary investigation suggests the three had rented the house in Upper Chowadi only a few days earlier and were using it to print the fake notes.
Sainik Colony Police took all three into custody and began questioning them. A case has been registered at Chhani Himmat police station.
Police are now trying to find out whether the accused have already pushed any counterfeit notes into the market, and whether a larger gang is operating behind them. No such information has come to light so far, officials said. |
