| Senior advocate attacked | | | Srinagar, February 12 Senior advocate and Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) member had a miraculous escape when an unidentified gunman fired several rounds of bullets at him near the gate of his residence in Baba Demb area of Srinagar city. KBA today convened an emergency meeting to discuss the issue and boycotted all work at Srinagar ‘s High Court and Session Court. Reports said that Shah was closing the main gate of his residence after parking his private vehicle at his residence when an unidentified gunman wearing a Firan fired at him from a distance of some fifteen feet at around 8 pm Sunday evening. Shah, however, escaped unhurt while bullets hit the walls of the house and the fencing around the courtyard. Reports said that Shah’s family members raised panic that forced the gun yielding man to flee from the spot. Police has, meanwhile, registered a case in this connection. Meanwhile, KBA today convened an emergency meeting to discuss the situation that has arisen after the attack on a senior Bar member. This is the third such reported incident over the past three months. KBA president, advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, was earlier attacked near Hyderpora while he was driving home after finishing his work at office. Another senior advocate, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, was also reportedly attacked during this period. The meeting condemned the attack on Shah and demanded the persons involved in the act to be brought to book soon failing which KBA shall be forced to press for the investigation of the incident by an independent agency. “Six advocates have been killed over the past seventeen years in Srinagar, but the state government has failed to make any progress in these cases except for one case,” Bar President, MIan Abdul Qayoom said. “And the only case in which some progress was made, government has failed to present the accused in court,” added Qayoom.
