| Uri people goes berserk over erratic power supply | | | Uri, Feb 12 Infuriated over erratic power supply to the area, a furious mob today attacked the cavalcade of minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Taj Mohi-u-din in his home constituency of Uri in Baramulla district of North Kashmir Valley. The minister was attacked with lathies when he reached the main market of the border town after inspecting site for construction of campus for up coming Degree College in the area. Quoting eyewitnesses a local news agency said that the irritated mob protesting over inadequate power supply to the area attacked the cavalcade of the minister and reportedly smashed the window pans of some vehicles. However, minister was rescued by the security unhurt. Sources said that seven officers who were accompanying the minister were taken hostage by the mob for three hours. The vehicles of the officers damaged in the clash. The people of the area who are facing acute shortage of power over last two months today took to street. “Even though having two big power projects, the area faces frequent shutdowns for days together” said a local resident adding that they will continue their protest till the government ensures adequate power supply to them.
