| Backward Classes Commission non-functional:Mehbooba | | Make commission functional: Speaker to Government | | early times report Srinagar, Oct 5: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone today directed the government to appoint members for the J&K Backward Classes Commission without any further delay. Lone made this observation when leader of the opposition Mehbooba Mufti wanted to know that despite assurances made on the floor of the house, the government has not made the Backward Classes Commission functional. Mehbooba while asking supplementary on her QD listed for today alleged that recommendations made by the public representative and also the representations made by the people of different areas in the state for notifying the specific areas for extending benefits under the Backward Areas category were pending disposal because of the non-functioning of the Backward Classes Commission. On this the speaker observed that he was in total agreement with the leader of the opposition on the issue and the government should make the commission fully functional without any further delay. "I as an elected member feel it difficult to refer the cases or recommend them in due to non-functioning of the commission". When Minister for Social welfare Sakina Ittue tried to convince the chair saying the government will expedite the process of appointment of members for the commission, Lone asked the minister to fix time-period for appointment members for the commission. "The Hon'ble Leader of the opposition is specifically asking you about the time period during which you will make the commission functional" Speaker asked the minister. However, the minister assured that the process will be expedited and the commission will be made functional soon. On this JKNPP legislator Harshdev Singh reminded the minister that a similar assurance was given on the floor of the house by her in the last session. |
