| JKNPP flays functioning of sports council | | | Jammu | Feb 12 State Vice President of J&K National Panthers Party, Inderjit Sharma has vehemently criticized the functioning of the J&K Sports Council playing truant with the youth and promising players of the state. He said that a strong contingent of 120 players has been sent to participate in the 33rd national Games at Gowahati by train at a expenditure of Rs.50,000 whereas handpicked men from Sports Council numbering 10 to 12 flew by air at a whopping expenditure of Rs 3.50 lakhs. He further said that at Gowahati the players have been allowed a meager daily allowance of Rs. 75/- per player whereas officials of the Council are being paid Rs. 500/- per day per person. This kind of highly discriminatory treatment meted out to the players will certainly have a negative affect on the performance the players in the National Games, he alleged. Sharma further demanded a probe into the whole matter and said that if some concrete step in not taken soon by the government, the performance of sportsmen in unlikely to improve.
