| SIT grills several policemen in fake encounter killing cases | | | SRINAGAR, FEB 13
The Special Investigation Team, probing killing of civilians in fake encounters by Special Operations Group of police, has grilled several policemen, including an officer, official sources said here today.
Ali Mohammad Reshi, station house officer of Ganderbal police station where some of the killings including that of carpenter Abdul Rehman Paddar have taken place, was summoned by the team on Sunday and grilled for two days, the sources said.
At least three other constables from Ganderbal were also questioned by the Special Investigation Team headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Farooq Ahmad, they said.
The policemen were questioned as the killings took place in their area of jurisdiction and the SIT was contemplating to use them as prosecution witnesses.
DIG Ahmad said no fresh arrests have been made in connection with the killing of Paddar but the investigations were going on smoothly. He refused to divulge any details saying the team was preparing the chargesheet in case of Paddar who is one of the five victims of the alleged fake encounters in Ganderbal.
Seven policemen, including former Senior Superintendent of Police of Ganderbal H R Parihar, his deputy Bahadur Ram, prime accused ASI Farooq Ahmad Gudoo and constable Farooq Ahmad Paddar were arrested in connection with the killing of Abdul Rehman Paddar.
The special investigation team is also probing four other cases of missing persons, who were allegedly killed in fake encounters by SOG in Ganderbal and later dubbed as militants for out-of-turn promotions and cash rewards.
