| Rs 30 cr to be spent in 3 backward districts under NREGS: Javid | | | Jammu, February 13 The Central government has released Rs 30 crore for implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in the three most backward districts viz Doda, Kupwara and Poonch of J&K, the scheme is expected to be extended to other districts also. This was stated by the Minister of State for Rural Development Mr. Javid Mustafa Mir at a meeting held here today to review the functioning of Rural Development Department. He said for implementation all the state and centrally sponsored schemes an amount of Rs 172 crore is being spent during the current financial year whileas Rs 366 crore are likely to be spent on various wage employment and self-employment schemes during 2007-08. During the 11th Five Year Plan period the allocation in comparison to the 10th Five Year Plan is likely to be doubled thereby assuring quantum jump in the flow of funds for rural infrastructure and self-employment schemes in the rural sector. This is in addition to the funds spent under MPLAD, Constituency Development Fund, BADP and other departmental works. Mr. Javid said that in order to ensure that a disease free, clean and unpolluted environment is provided to the rural population a multi-pronged strategy has been evolved for carrying forward the sanitation campaign in a mission mode. As per revised guidelines projects worth Rs 200 crore have been formulated and submitted to Union Ministry of Rural Development Department by which besides providing individual household latrines, community household latrines, institutional latrines and women sanitary marts on a large scale, effective and concrete measures for solid and liquid waste management would be entailed through community participation |
