| Zargar for greening policy in Industries | | | Jammu, February 13
Appreciating voluntary closure of pesticides manufacturing units in Tanda Pur area of Vijaypur Jammu, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar has said that huge losses of vegetables allegedly by pollution from pesticides manufacturing in the area is a great matter of concern. He underscored the importance of making all units working in the area pollution free.
He was chairing a high level meeting convened to discuss the damage caused to the crops and vegetables in the area from pesticide manufacturing units, here today.
It was decided in the meeting that in order to build confidence in the farming community of Tanda Pur a committee comprising, Managing Director SIDCO Jammu and Kashmir, Director Command Area Jammu, Environmental Engineering, Pollution Control Board, representatives SKUAST Jammu representatives of pesticides manufacturing units would visit the area and interact with the farmers.
The Chief Secretary present in the meeting sought a technical report from the pollution control board to identify weather these pesticides manufacturing units were or not actually the cause of damage to the vegetables in the area. He also asked the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to make available the damage report so that the compensation/ relief could be considered in favour of the farmers.
At the end of meeting it was decided that by 23 February 2007 both the reports should be made available so that a final decision could be taken by the government and intimated to the industrialists through the Industries and Commerce department.
